Located
in Explorer Country between the Blue Mountains
and Mudgee Shires, the Rylstone Shire is one of
the last best-kept secrets for the holiday maker
who seeks the genuine old world charm of a secluded
shire.
Two routes from
Sydney: From central and
western Sydney, take the M4 and then continue
to Lithgow via Katoomba. Or, from north and
northwest of Sydney, go via Richmond and then
take the Bells line of road to Lithgow. From Lithgow continue northwest
for 5 km and take the left fork to Mudgee which
is signposted. Follow the Mudgee signs. 3 km
north of the hamlet of Ilford, turn right to
Kandos and Rylstone.
Entering Rylstone,
as you pass the Rylstone hospital, turn right
at Narrango road. It is now 33 km to the Wilderness
Bunkhouse. (Note: after a further 2.6 km take
the left fork to Nullo Mountain, not straight
ahead to Glen Alice) At the Olinda Bushfire
Brigade sheds, continue straight ahead into
the Wollemi National Park. Gravel road for
a further 14.7 km to the bunkhouse. The owners
live a further 1.5 km past the bunkhouse at
Inglewood homestead.
